Under 2s Consultation

CONSULTATION PERIOD: Thursday 10th September 2026 – Thursday 8th October 2026

Crossens Nursery School is consulting on a proposal to develop six places for children under two years old within our existing nursery building. This is in addition to the 90 place setting that we currently offer across the 2-4 year old provisions. Families visit the nursery often when their children are still babies and we are frequently asked if we provide care for Under 2s. We are also mindful of local sufficiency data for our area and we are aware that more Under 2s places are required.

The proposal would involve adapting existing staff space to create a dedicated, bright and welcoming environment for babies and young toddlers, with age-appropriate resources, opportunities for safe exploration and play, rest and sleep, and a calm environment that supports individual routines and nurturing relationships.

The six places would be supported by appropriately qualified and experienced staff, in line with statutory safeguarding, supervision, qualification and ratio requirements.

Existing staff facilities would be relocated to a new staff/resource building, providing space for staff breaks and wellbeing, resource storage, meetings and professional discussions.

The Nursery is in the process of applying for the School Based Nursery Grant.

The proposed provision is subject to consultation, approval and building works, with implementation proposed for September 2027.

We would like to hear your views. All responses will be carefully considered as part of the consultation process.
