Reggio Emilia Philosophy

Crossens Nursery School has links with the Reggio Emilia Philosophy

All that takes place within the Reggio schools in terms of learning, teaching and professional development stems from one overriding factor – the Image of the child.

One of the most revolutionary elements within the Reggio Approach is the central importance given to the expressive arts as a vehicle for learning.  Detailed drawing activities occur daily in the schools, and as at Crossens Nursery School the children participate in sculpture, drama, shadow play, puppetry, painting, dancing, music, ceramics, construction and writing.  Outstanding work is produced, aided by the full-time atelierista in each pre-school and the excellent resources in the central atelier and mini atelier in each classroom.

Crossens Nursery follows a curriculum through the Arts, linking the lightbox, overhead imagery and willow weaving with the six Early Learning Goals.

“We looked at the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching before deciding on sending our child to Crossens Nursery. We could see the benefits straight away”
